My room

By Jay, 8 months old

Mum and Dad were very busy over the Easter weekend in my room. They took some coloured liquid and pushed it all over the walls. It looked like a lot of fun but they wouldn’t let me help. I did try to play with some of the liquid that fell on the floor but it had turned hard and I couldn’t pick it up.

It is a really nice yellowy green colour and has made my room a lot brighter. It also matches my new roman blind very well. I think my Mum picked it. She has pretty good taste.

Baby yoga

By Jay, 8 months old

On Wednesdays I go with Mum to mother and baby yoga. We have been going for a few months now. Mum rolls out a big blue sheet on the floor and we do all sorts of exercises. Sometimes Mum stretches and pulls my legs and arms, and other times I just sit on the floor and play while she holds all sorts of weird positions. My favourite time is when Mum swings me around in the air, or does flip flops hanging me upside down.

I am the eldest baby at the yoga class so I try to set a good example. However, I think the littler babies are better at a lot of exercises where you are meant to sit or lie still like relaxation. I have already spent a lot of time lying still when I was a little baby so I don’t want to do that any more.

Bassinet stroller

By Jay, 8 months old

I still use my first-ever stroller. It is a Swallow “Beema Q” and I liked it when I got it because it had a bassinet in it. I slept a lot when I was very little and I could sleep as much as I wanted inside the bassinet. After a little while I didn’t need the bassinet any more so Mum took it out! Then I used the stroller just as a chair with wheels on it. When I am tired Mum can still recline the seat and I can lie down and sleep.

Another big tooth

By Jay, 8 months old

I am getting another tooth. This one is at the top opposite the other two teeth. It is really big. Now I can bite off big chunks of the stuff that Mum and Dad put in my mouth. There’s not much I can do with these big chunks so I usually just leave them in my mouth and spit them out later.  I can also grind this tooth against my teeth on the bottom which makes a very interesting noise.
I think I understand what teeth are good for now. I wish I had teeth in the side of my mouth. Then I could chew like Mum and Dad.

Wobbling

By Jay, 8 months old

I have just learned a great new movement: I can smile and wobble my head from side to side. This is exactly what Dad does when I try to put his finger in my mouth. Head-wobbling is a lot of fun. I can see why Dad likes to do it so much.

Jolly Jumper

By Jay, 8 months old today

Mum bought me a great new toy called a Jolly Jumper. She straps me into it, then Dad hangs it in a doorway. Then I can easily stand and jump up and down just like Mum and Dad. I love it so much that I laugh and smile and it is so much fun! Dad said it’s like a baby bungee jump. But I don’t know what he is talking about.

Mum says that I am only allowed to use it for 15 minutes every day so I don’t learn bad walking habits. I don’t mind because I do get tired after 15 minutes. If walking is as much fun as jumping, then I want to learn to walk as soon as I can.
