My first word

By Jay, 10 months old

“Uh-oh!”

This is what Mum says if I drop something. A few days ago I started saying it too. It’s the first word I can say properly. I drop something, then Mum says “uh-oh”, then I say “uh-oh”, then Mum and Dad smile and laugh, then I smile and laugh. It’s so much fun! I hope to learn some new words soon to go with “uh-oh”. I think Mum is trying to teach me to say “OK”, but when I say it it sounds like “oat”. Mum seems to like it anyway.

And I still don’t know what “uh-oh” means.

My daily routine

By Jay, 10 months old

For a long time I didn’t have much of a routine during my day and night. I would keep getting hungry and waking up and Mum would feed me and then I would be tired during the day. But now that I sleep all through the night, here is what I do every day.

7am: Wake up and call out to Mum and Dad. Dad comes in and picks me up. He takes me to Mum who feeds me milk.

7.30am: Dad changes my nappy. Then I go in and play in the lounge.

A round of applause

By Jay, 10 months old

The other day I discovered that if I clap my hands together, it makes a nice sound. Mum was doing it so I thought I would try too. It was a bit tricky but Mum seemed to really enjoy it. She laughed and called me a good boy. (I am a good boy.) After only a couple of days of practice, now I am good at clapping and both Mum and Dad love it when I do it. It’s so much fun!

I think that Mum and Dad are now trying to teach me something called “wave bye-bye”. Now that I am so good at clapping I am sure this new thing will be easy too.

Pitter patter of tiny feet?

By Jay, 10 months old

Apparently before I was born lots of people told Mum and Dad that soon there would be the the pitter patter of tiny feet. But now that I am have starting crawling with one leg tucked up under me (more like a bum shuffle really) Mum says it sounds more like thump, bump, bump, thump, bump, bump. Only babies that have houses with wooden floor boards seem to crawl this way. I think it is because the floor boards are so slippery.

I wonder if I will be able to pitter patter before my feet stop being tiny?

My nicknames

By Jay, 10 months old

Mum and Dad like to call me lots of different names. Sometimes it depends on what I am doing at the time, but sometimes I think maybe they just forget my real name. Here are some of the names they call me.

Jaybird, Jay Boy, Boodle Boy, Golden Boy, Milkman, Munchkin, Limpet, Little Monkey, Sweetie, Cheeky, Cutie.

I like these funny names even though I don’t know what they mean. But Mum and Dad also call me Jay, and I know what that means. It means me!
