Brushing my teeth

By Jay, 11 months old

I have a new brush for my teeth. Every night Dad dresses me in my pyjamas and then takes me into the bathroom. He puts the toothbrush into my mouth and wiggles it around. Of course I chew on it, because it’s fun and that’s what I do whenever anything is in my mouth. But Dad says I shouldn’t chew, and instead he tries to brush my teeth with it. I only have 8 teeth, so it doesn’t take long. I don’t know why he does it anyway.

I have seen Mum and Dad brush their own teeth. It takes a long time because they have so many teeth. But they never seem to chew the brush. They don’t know what they are missing.

My first weekend away

By Jay, 11 months old

Jay and familyI have just arrived back from my first weekend away in Taupo with Mum and Dad. It was organised by Dad’s work and we stayed at the Wairakei Resort for 2 nights. It was a bit strange being in the car for such a long time. On the way down on Friday morning, we left at around 9 am and I had a nice sleep before we made a short stop in Cambridge at a nice cafe which had some toys in a box and coffee table for me to walk around. I then had to go back in the car for another couple of hours and didn’t want to go to sleep again and was getting a bit bored. So Mum had to sing and play games with me over the car seat until we arrived (Dad was driving).

On Friday afternoon Dad went off to a work meeting, and Mum took me to the spa. Although it was cold outside it was fun being in the warm spa. That night a friendly lady from the hotel called Renee looked after me while Mum and Dad went to dinner with the other people from Dad’s work.

Leg hugs

By Jay, 11 months old

My new favourite trick this week is leg hugs. I just go up to one of my people (normally Mum, or sometimes Dad) and pull myself up to stand on their legs and then give their legs a big hug.

It can be quite funny if Dad forgets to tie the cord on his pyjamas because sometimes I can pull them down! Also, as Mum and Dad can’t really walk or do anything while I am hugging their legs, they normally pick me up. The best thing about leg hugs is that they turn into real hugs — which is what I wanted in the first place.
