Spinning

By Jay, 15 months old

I love spinning things. When I was really little, Dad used to spin things for me on the ground. He would spin little plastic cups, spinning tops and balls. I really like watching them spin, and sometimes I like to put my hand on them as they are spinning. Now I am older I can spin them myself. I think spinning is a more grown-up version of wobbling.

Sometimes I even take a plastic cup in each hand and spin them both in opposite directions at the same time! I can also spin lots of other things, like my fork and plate. I also like to spin the little tomatoes that Mum gives me. They are the best because I can eat them after I have spun them.

Kiss kiss

By Jay, 15 months old

I really like hugs, and I like kisses too. Mum kisses me good night every night, which makes me feel warm when I go to sleep. Sometimes Dad makes loud kissing sounds beside my neck and it tickles and makes me laugh. And Mum and Dad and my grandparents and my other people all kiss me sometimes for no reason.

Now I can kiss them back. The only thing is that they are all very tall and it’s hard to reach them. I have to wait until they pick me up. Then I grab their head and kiss them on the cheek. Sometime I grab tightly onto their ear just to be sure. Dad makes a funny noise when I do that. Sometimes I kiss other things like Mum’s knee or the chair or Nana’s cat. The cat usually runs away after that.

My first painting

By Jay, 15 months old

Jay's first paintingToday I did my first painting at Playcentre. It was fun to do, because there were lots of pots of paint and brushes. I enjoyed painting things with all the different colours but Mum says that you’re supposed to only paint on the paper. So this picture isn’t the whole of my painting. I painted parts on the easel as well, and some of it was on the floor and in my hair. But all the other parts have been washed away now. The rest is up on the wall in our kitchen. There are other paintings on the walls but mine is the best.

A word in your “ear”

By Jay, 15 months old

I think one day soon I will start talking. I already understand a lot of words, like “ball” and “bath” and “cat” and “Mum”. But it’s hard to say the words, so most of the time I don’t. Sometimes I just use sign language instead.

But I have been practising words more and more. My favourite new word is “OFF!” This is what happens to the light when I press the light switch. It’s also what happens to my shoes when I come inside the house. It’s very useful and it’s also fun to say out loud.

Milk

By Jay, 15 months old

Ever since I can remember, I used to drink my milk directly from Mum. It was really nice because I’d get a cuddle at the same time as a nice drink. But since then I have grown up a bit. I have been eating other food for months now, and also drinking other drinks. I also like to run around more now so I don’t always have time to stop for a milk feed. So now I still drink lots of milk, but for the last couple of weeks it has come from a big bottle in the fridge instead of Mum.

Now when I have milk, Mum or Dad put the milk in a special cup for me. Sometimes they heat it up in the microwave. I like the microwave because it makes an exciting beeping sound when the milk is ready. I always squeal and wave my arms around in case Dad didn’t hear it. Then I get to drink the nice warm milk. And even though I don’t get my milk straight from Mum any more, I don’t mind because I still get lots of cuddles.
