More spinning

By Jay, 16 months old

I wrote about spinning before but I forgot about the best spinning of all. Sometimes Dad picks me up and holds me up so we are face to face. Then he spins around and I spin around with him and it’s so much fun! Whenever Dad says “are you ready for a spin?” I start smiling. And when he picks me up and spins us around I laugh and squeal. First we spin in one direction. Then Dad spins us in the other direction.

After all the spinning Dad puts me down. He shakes his head and walks funny for a minute afterwards. It looks funny! So even after the spinning is over it’s still lots of fun to watch Dad.

Chasing seagulls

By Jay, 16 months old

Jay chasing seagullsWe went to Devonport today, to play in a park by the sea. There were so many birds there! A lot of them were flying up in the sky. I always point them out to Mum and Dad. But some of the birds were walking on the ground. They are fun because then I can play with them.

Every time I ran up to them they just ran away. But that’s OK because it’s fun to run after them. The best thing is when I run towards them and they fly away. Whee! I wonder why they always go away. I only want to give them a hug.

More and more words

By Jay, 16 months old

I am learning to say more words. “Ball” and “balloon” are two of my favourite toys. Sometimes I eat from a “bowl”. I can recognize all these things if Mum points to them, and I can say them all. But It’s hard to say them exactly right and so they all sound like “bull”.

My favourite animals are still cats. I say “cah”. I usually also say “maow maow!” because that’s what cats say to me. A car is also a “cah” but they don’t go maow. Also I am not allowed to pat them.

Outside in our garden we have some trees. I like trees. I call them “chee”. This is different from the thing I sit in when I eat, which I call a “chair”. And that’s what Mum and Dad call it too.

Molar teeth

By Jay, 16 months old

Ouch! For weeks I have had big painful lumps in my mouth. Sometimes they are OK but sometimes they hurt and make me cry. I have to get medicine from Mum to make it better.

But a few days ago the lumps started turning into teeth! Now I have four big new teeth called molars. There might even be more than four. It’s hard to see. Anyway they are great for eating steak and carrots and lots of other yummy food.

There are still some spaces in my mouth where maybe other teeth could go. I wonder when they will come. I hope they don’t hurt as much.

I am not a girl!

By Jay, 16 months old today

I wore my favourite pink shirt to our neighbourhood playground today. It’s a nice shirt and it goes with my skin colour and makes me look even more cute. I took Dad as well so he could play with me. There was a little girl there too, and her Mum was talking with Dad. Of course they were talking about me. The lady pointed to me and said “How old is she?”

Dad thought that was really funny. He told the lady that I am a boy even though I was wearing a pink shirt. She seemed a bit confused. I think whether you are a boy or girl depends on what you look like, not what your clothes look like.
