Dirty water

By Jay, 21 months old

I like water. I like to drink water and swim in water. Sometimes when it rains I can go out and play in water puddles. But I don’t like dirty water because it’s dirty. So I wonder why my Nana likes to drink dirty water?

When I see something dirty I always tell Mum or Dad about it. Sometimes it’s me that gets dirty and then they help me get clean again. I visited my Nana Pixie on the weekend and a saw that she was drinking a glass full of dirty dark brown water. Yuck! I tried to tell Dad. “Dirty water!” He just looked at Nana and they both laughed.

Nana has a whole bottle of dirty water in the fridge. She calls it “Coke”. I think it looks nasty and I’m glad Mum and Dad don’t make me drink dirty water.

Tongue tie

By Felix, 11 weeks old

When I was born I had a tongue tie. My tongue was stuck to the bottom of my mouth. Mum says that it is common for a newborn baby like me to have a tongue tie but it usually goes away after a while. Mum didn’t even know about mine until a nurse noticed it when I was about 6 weeks old.

My tongue tie was making it hard for me to eat. When Mum was feeding me it was hard to get my head in the right place so I could swallow the milk. Also, the tongue tie could make it hard for me to learn to talk. So when Mum found out about the tongue tie she took me to a doctor to fix it.

It was easy to fix the tongue tie. The doctor just cut the piece of skin that attached my tongue to my mouth. It was very quick and it only hurt a little bit. Mum was there so I didn’t cry very much. And since then it has been easier to eat!

Talking about the ball

By Jay, 21 months old

I am getting better at putting words together when I talk.

Mummy kick ball up high!

I said that when I was telling Dad about me and Mum at the park. Mum was kicking a ball and it went up really high. I like things that go up high because they come down again really fast.

Walk this way

By Jay, 21 months old

Dad carried me out to look at the moon. I like the moon. But I wanted to go on the road to look at the street lights so I asked Dad.

Dad walk that way please.

It’s a good thing I said please because Dad did take me out onto the footpath. We counted the lights several times and then Dad took me back inside and put me to bed even though I asked him to stay out. I should have said please.

My brother looks like me!

By Jay, 21 months old

Today Mum was showing me some baby photos. She asked me who was in the pictures. I said “Felix!” but Mum said they were really pictures of me! Mum says that a long time ago I was a really small baby just like Felix is now. I looked just like Felix does except I think I was a little bit thinner than he is. Maybe one day he will look like me. He’s so lucky.
