The funniest joke in the world

By Jay, 26 months old

Yesterday I made up the funniest joke in the world. Every night Dad helps me put my sleeping bag on at bedtime. He tells me “now it’s time for the sleeping bag.” But tonight I asked Dad for something else: the… the… seeping… blag! I said this and then I laughed and laughed. And laughed a bit more. Then I said it again and laughed even more. It is so funny!

I discovered it’s even more funny if you make your voice go up higher at the end as you say seeping… blaaaaag! I just laugh so much. Dad thinks it’s funny too. We both laughed about it a lot today. It’s my new favourite word. Blaaag!

Am I an adult?

By Jay, 26 months old

We were having dinner tonight and Mum and Dad were drinking wine. I said: Jay want some wine please. But Dad said that wine is only for adults. So I said:

Jay is an adult!

Even though I am an adult they didn’t give me wine to drink. Maybe I am not an adult after all. I wonder what an adult is?

Sit!

By Felix, 7 months old

I am getting better at sitting up by myself now. This is good because I can see what Mum is doing when she moves around the house. I feel happier and so I don’t cry so much now.

Also I can play with toys more easily and pick them up if I drop them. Sometimes I fall over sideways because I am having too much fun playing and forget to stay sitting up. Sometimes I do cry then. But sometimes I end up lying on my side on the floor, so I can just roll over and look for more toys. Maybe soon I will be able to crawl. That will be my next trick.

Working very hard

By Jay, 26 months old

I was playing out in the front garden today when Dad came out and began pulling weeds out of the ground. I started to help him. He smiled at me so I looked at him and said

Jay busy working very hard!

Dad was working almost as hard as me. We pulled out a lot of weeds.

May I?

By Jay, 26 months old

My friend Jack was standing on my stool today watching some cupcakes and I wanted to see too. So I asked him:

Please may I have a turn now?

Dad was really impressed because I was so polite. I know that it’s good to be polite like this but sometimes I forget. But when I remember it’s really good because people usually smile when I ask nicely and they give me what I want.

Except Jack didn’t get off the stool because he really wanted a cupcake. I didn’t mind because in the end we both got a cupcake. Actually I got two!

Teeny tiny bubbles

By Jay, 26 months old

I like washing my hands because of all the soap bubbles. Today I showed the bubbles to Dad and said:

Lots of teeny tiny little bubbles down there.
Also big bubbles and medium bubbles.

Dad agreed with me about all the different sizes of bubbles. But Dad’s not as good at washing his hands as I am because he doesn’t spend long enough counting the bubbles.

Sitting up

By Felix, 7 months old

I can sit up all by myself now. Before I could only lie down on the floor and sometimes roll over. The trouble is that I get bored playing with the same things all the time like my rattle or my feet. Mum and Dad used to try to sit me up but I would stretch out my legs and fall over backwards.

But just this week I discovered that if I don’t stretch out my legs then I can stay sitting up. If I do this then Dad puts lots of toys on the floor around me and  I can pick and choose and play with anything I like. It’s much more fun. But I still fall over quite a lot.

Drink of water

By Jay, 26 months old

Tonight I had a really really good idea. After Mum and Dad put me into bed I usually play with my teddy bear and dog and bunny rabbit. But tonight I called out to Dad and asked him for a drink of water. Dad got me my cup and I had a drink of water and then he said goodnight and talked to me and gave me a hug. That was really nice! Maybe I should ask for a drink of water every night.

Teddy would like some milk

By Jay, 26 months old

I have a teddy bear called “Teddy” that sleeps with me in my cot. Tonight Teddy was out with me when it was time for my bedtime story. I thought Teddy was thirsty so I told Dad.

Teddy would like some milk.

Dad smiled at that. He gave me some milk in my cup and I offered it to Teddy. Teddy had a little bit but he left most of it for me. I like Teddy. And Dad.
