Tokyo is most expensive city

The annual Mercer survey has found that Tokyo is by far the most expensive city in the world to live in, with Osaka in second place. Tokyo has been number one on the list for years. Tokyo and Osaka’s ratings have increased because of the rising value of the Yen, so if you’re living there and being paid in yen it doesn’t matter all that much.

Personally, I always thought that rent in Tokyo was very expensive, but most other things aren’t too bad. Especially compared with somewhere like London, which is third on this year’s list.

Mercer also carry out an annual Quality of Life survey. The highest-ranked Japanese cities were the smaller cities of Omuta, Kastuyama, Tsukuba, and Yokkaichi, which ranked 14th equal. Tokyo didn’t seem to be in the top 50.
