    Hello,

I have been working in Fukushima for the last year for a company that sponsored my work visa. I am now going to be moving to Tokyo and looking for another job. However, my visa will be expiring soon. I have been looking into extensions, tourist visa and more to try and find time to get my next job. I know I can find a job, but I need another month or so to finish up this job, get moved and start the next job. Thanks for any information or advice you have.

    Scott.

Ranjeev, the simplest thing to do is ask yourfiancee to call the local ward office and ask them. As I recall, somebody posted a comment somewhere on this site where they described the marriage process — it was pretty simple.

Joan, it is not necessary to leave Japan to renew a visa, but it usually is necessary in order to change visa status. Most working visas are issued for either one year or three years.

Scott, the usual strategy in your situation is to get your work visa renewed before leaving your first job. This gives you time to find the next job. The immigration status of people who are no longer employed by their work visa sponsor is a bit unclear, so it would be best not to spend too long without work in this situation.

I hope you can help me out with this one. A few years ago I got my passport revolked and have been doing what I can to get it back. At the time I still had 2 years left on my human realtions visa so I asked a legal aid if it would be ok if I stayed in Japan even if i don’t have a current passport. The answer I got was basically is if I didn’t into any trouble and as long as I work and have a visa then there isn’t a problem. Well there is a problem now…….or should I say a good and bad thing….one I’m getting my passport back in about a month or so but it looks like my visa will expire before that happens. So my question is can I be able to extend my vise even with out a passport?
    Any advise would be cool

Neo, your cousin should contact the Japanese embassy to see if he can apply for Japanese citizenship. If he gets it he will soon have to give up any other citizenships he may have.

Hello there to anyone with legal knowledge

I am a british citizen wanting to go to japan on a working holiday visa but…I have a criminal record, although its only a monor offence for using (abusive language). It happened 3 years ago so do you think I would be granted a visa?

Bob: Unfortunately, one of the Conditions of the Working Holiday Programme is that you must not have a criminal record.

    hello everybody!

Just need little help here!….I’m an engineer working here in Japan and I want to bring my wife. Last february of this year, I applied for her certificate of eligibility to make the application of her dependent visa in Philippines much faster. But the problem is, until now the COE is not coming. As far as I’m concerned I submitted the all required documents needed. The immigration said that it will take a maximum of 3 months for it to be released. Is it possible that my application was rejected? what is the best thing to do right now?

hope u will give me some advice regarding my inquiry…

    tnx!

I hold a valid 3 years spouse visa but unfortunately we’ll be divorced soon. Once we did the steps: will I loose my right to stay/work in Japan or can I stay until the 3 years period ends? Do I need to tell the immigration office about my divorce? Please advice. Thanks.

    Hi friends,
I am living in Japan for nearly 7 years now.I am a filipina ,got married and was divorced from my Japanese husband.I was so lucky enough that Japan immigration did gave me a “3 year long term resident” visa even i was already divorced by my husband. There, i knew that being married to a japanese and stayed in Japan for more than 5 years has the chance to apply for a “long-term visa”
Now my problem is i have a diabetes, hypertension and heart-illment.Dangerous for me to be alone. And so my doctor gave me a medical certificate to be able for me to get my “16 year old son” from philippines.(my son is illegitimate since i was not married to his real father who is a filipino).
Luckily,Japan immigration gave my son a (1 year long term resident visa) but the big problem is this.My son brought that certidficate of illegibility to the Japan embassy in Manila last April 11.And so they given him a reciept-like which indicates the date when to comeback to get the result. And they scheduled my son to comeback by April 17.So when my son cameback, they said,”the verification is not yet finish.Just go home and we will call u soon as its done”. Its more than a month now.Yet still no result and no calls from them.
So i decided to call Japan embassy to ask.And still ,same answer.Verification is not yet finish. And i asked, “when it will be?” the staff said sometimes 3 to 6 months coz she said my sons birth certificate is “late registration”
Anybody here (esp filipinos) who has the idea, experience or knowledge about this please help me.thanks!

    hi dean!
ur case is likely-same as mine.
Even ur Japanese spouse will divorce u and even u dont have a child .if u have a job with “genzen(employment tax)=this can get by ur employer from the city-hall. u can stay in Japan even divorced as long as u still have the valid visa.
Now u are a “spouse of a Japanese National”.But after ur divorce.U need to go to the the immigration for a “change status”
From “Spouse of a Japanese National” to “change Status” visa still remain but only the sticker will be change. And u must also need to go to ur city hall “for the record”after u acquire the sticker”change status” .
before ur “3 year visa “expires and if uve been here in japan for more than 5 years then u have the chance to apply for a “1 or 3 year long term resident visa. If u want to stay in Japan u need to be patient and carefully plan all of these or else u will go back to ur country as soon as ur visa expires.
This is what i did to hit the jackpot(lols):
from “Spouse of a japanese national” to “change status” to” long term resident “visa
There is no much documents needed in order to apply for a visa extension here in Japan immigration.I am telling u,according from my own experienced. If u need any further assistance and advice try to call immigration “information”.Goodluck!

For those waiting for their COE/visas to be issued, it usually takes 3-6 months. I don’t know why it’s very slow but maybe it’s due to the fact that there are a lot of illegal immigrants there from the Philippines (dancers/prostitutes/hostesses). The best you can do is to wait it out. If your purpose is to work there, just pray the company doesn’t fire you because they got tired of waiting for your COE. The latest ‘ve heard was 5 months and that person already has a master’s degree (you need at least a bachelor’s degree).

Victor, see the above comment from Confused and Lonely Mom — you may be able to keep your visa.

Nelsaa, Japan is generally regarded as a pretty safe country. It’s not necessarily expensive compared with other similarly developed countries, but it can be hard to find a legal job. Have a look around this website for some ideas.
