So many words

By Jay, 19 months old

I’m learning to say a lot of new words. Dad smiles every time I say a new word properly so I try to do it all the time. I always say “bye bye” when somebody goes away or if a “birdie” flies away from me. I also say bye bye to the bath when I have to get out. Now I like to say “hi” when I see someone. I also say it when Mum lets me talk on the phone.

At first I liked to grab Mum and Dad’s ear. Now I like to point to their “nose” and “eye” and “chin” as well. They smile when I do this except when I poke their eye too hard. I also touch my “knee” and Dad’s knee but he doesn’t like it when I pull the hair on his knee. After dinner I always brush my “teeth”. Sometimes I brush my hair as well but Dad doesn’t like it when I use the same brush that I brush my teeth with.

Mum and Dad like to count things all the time. I don’t like all of the numbers, so I don’t say them all. My favourite numbers are “two”, “six” and “eight”. Maybe I will start saying some of the other numbers one day but there seem to be a lot of them to learn.

Now I can say the names of some of my favourite things. I like to say “plane” and “horse” when I see them. I also like to point out when I see an “ant” or a bug except that I call it a “ba”. Well really I call it a “BA! BA! BA!” in a big voice. I like bugs.

I can also say some more food names like “mince” and “yoghurt” and my favourite “milk”. If I want them I sometimes say “please” which makes Mum and Dad smile. Even when I say “pease” instead. They also like it when I put my toys “away”.

Another one of my favourite words is “abbis”. I say it a lot but Mum and Dad don’t seem to know what it means. I hope they learn it soon!
