  • Might I suggest that you provide some sort of hook to allow the user to indicate the line between the stuff that was on the front-page and the stuff that follows the comment? I personally don’t like the visual disorientation of trying to find where I was, and like to draw something that makes this clear.
Ideal would the the ability for the user to specify some HTML that gets dumped in at the splice point, eg [hr class="my-less-divider"]. (Replace [ with angle brackets as appropriate, weird quoting used so that the HTML is not displayed as a rule in this comment.)

  • Maynard, that’s a good idea. I will try to think of a good way to do it. The interesting part will be handling cases where the [more] is in the middle of a paragraph. We don’t want a horizontal line (or whatever) splitting

the paragraph up like this. In fact, I can’t immediately think of a good way to handle this case. Any thoughts?

I’ll ponder this for a little while and see what comes up.

  • Good plugin!

I used to ‘hack’ the file myself to show the complete post, but this is much more convenient, especially when upgrading.

    Thanks!

  • Thank you for the Evermore and Less plugins. I like them and I’m going to try them for a while and see how my readers like them.

  • I’ve been unconsciously scrolling up to view the full post ever since I discovered the teaser. Less is the solution that made me realize there was a problem.

Thank you for thinking for me, and writing this little plugin!

  • Haven’t used this yet, but for a divider, what about italics for the initial part of the article already read? Or, just don’t worry about mid-paragraph breaks - keep the graphic split indicator after the next paragraph break. Or, a halftone background? Thanks for this plug-in -can’t wait to try it.

  • Glenn, those are all excellent ideas. Changing the text (italics or background) is possible, but it’s very tricky to make it work in all situations. I’m still thinking about it. I was planning maybe some sort of coloured indicator that slowly fades out, but maybe that’s just too fancy. Less is more, remember?
